PIN Requirement for Mobile Devices connecting to VSC Email

Lockscreen requiring a PIN

The Vermont State Colleges (VSC) requires all mobile devices connecting to VSC email accounts to be secured by a passcode or other approved method. This includes students, faculty, staff, alumni, and retired employees.

When adding your VSC email to your mobile phone or tablet you will be required to enable a simple PIN to secure your device. If you already have PIN or password on your device, then you have met the requirements and no further action is required.

Why is this a Requirement?

If you were to lose your device, anyone could access your VSC email account and your information. The PIN is one way to mitigate some of the risks associated with accessing your email from a mobile device.

What type of PIN will be required?

One of the following:
Four-digit numeric PIN
Pattern
Fingerprint
or any combination of these.

What if I remove my VSC email from my device? Can I remove the PIN?

Yes, but it is still a good practice to have a PIN on your device in case you lose it.
